Northeast Tunis Sheep Association Host National Tunis
Yearling Ewe Jackpot Show
Milo, IA—The first annual National Tunis Yearling Ewe
Jackpot Show was held on Monday November 14 at the North American
International Livestock Exposition in Louisville. 13 Tunis Breeders
exhibited 21 Tunis yearling ewes at the show. The show was organized and
hosted by the Northeast Tunis Sheep Association. According
to show manager Sharon Kerns of Harvard, MA the Jackpot show provides an
additional showcase event to promote the Tunis sheep breed. It also
provides a monetary incentive for Tunis sheep breeders to participate in
another show. This year’s jackpot paid out over $1,200.00 to the top five
placings. Ten percent of the funds raised went to the Northeast Tunis
Association youth fund. The top five winning ewes were
exhibited by the following Tunis breeders first place Richard, Tom and
Rachel Schambow of Evansville, WI; second place went to Small Fry Farm
Continued, Anna Charest, of Brimfield, MA; third place went to Triple T
Ranch, Tim, Tammie and Trinity Serafin of Albany, OR; fourth place went to
John and Irene Bruns of Maria Stein, OH; and fifth place went to Darling
Tunis, Jim and Louis Dunham of Zanesfield, OH. Judging the show were Mike
Wright of Alstead, NH, Judy Moore of Eagle, MI, and Chuck Ream of Willits,
CA. Tunis breeders nominate ewe lambs they own and sustain
with entry fees for over a year to compete in the annual jackpot show at
NAILE. Ewe lambs must be born between the dates of September 1 and May 1
the year prior to the show. Each breeder pays an entry fee for each ewe
lamb nominated every few months beginning August 15. A total of four entry
payments are made over 18 months. |
